Pracha Hutanuwatr and Pissamai U- Pratchaya
Pracha, his wife Jane and Pissamai visited Dr. Jacob's hospital in Kerala Last year. Pracha suffered from high blood pressure, and Jane suffered from an auto-immune dysfunction. Pissamai was interested in Ayurvedic medicine because several of her friends and relatives had been diagnosed with cancer. One of her best friends died of the disease, after a long series of chemotherapy, the day she departed for India .
They were initially taken a back at the rundown appearance of the Navajivan Centre where Dr. Jacob treats his patients with the Nature Cure method. Dr. Jacob's group of hospitals are, literally, nursing homes for the poor, Pissamai said. Patients who cannot afford medical fees are offered free service.
Pracha added that the atmosphere was very friendly with patients and their families helping one another in their daily treatment as well as cooking healthy food for the group. There was not a single TV set in the entire compound, Pissamai said, but the evening meeting was usually filled with laughter and singing as each and every resident took turns staging performances for entertainment and education.
Prach admitted he had his doubts when he was put on a fruit diet for 45 consecutive days. He lost 15 kilograms in the process and his blood pressure steadily dropped. Pracha said he sneaked out to get an independent check-up because he didn't believe the results, but they confirmed Dr. Jacob's findings.
Jane, Meanwhile, was put on a juice-only diet. She was not completely cured of her ailment, but her husband said that her spirit has since been elevated to a remarkable level.
After talking to past and current patients at the Centre, Pracha concluded that the Nature Cure treatment is very effective with patients who have diabetes, the initial stages of cancer, high blood pressure, asthma or allergies.
Of course, Pissamai said, there have been patients who have died at Dr. Jacob's hospital, but they did not arrive there until they were in a coma. The Navajivan Centre, however, offered them a peaceful death.
Pissamai was originally skeptical at the seemingly easy methods of Nature Cure, but she said many of the diabetic patients were spared limp amputation simply because they were cured by regular sun-bath treatments. Those who had lost both of their kidneys continued to live and function well at the Navajivan Centre, despite their bleak early diagnoses from mainstream physicians.
Pissamai concluded that, all in all, the Nature Cure School of medicine is very simple and anyone can practice it. The biggest hurdle, however, is the transformation of attitudes, lifestyle and the mind itself. This alternative medicine is an art, and faith plays a significant role. As long as the mind believes in the power of the body to cure itself, and with unwavering perseverance, the beginnings of a new life is already in place.
Kaendao Ying Navabooniyom
Last month, Kaendo “Young Navabooniyom arrived at Ashram Wongsanit with only 500 baht in her pocket. Her original intention was to accompany an American friend who was curious about he Nature Cure practice. But Ying herself discovered a wealth of generosity from Dr. Jacob and his staff- and a possibility of regaining her health.
Ying said she has been on a vegetarian diet for a decade, and the intestinal cancer she has might be due to her past years working with toxic chemicals. Another possible cause was a car accident three years ago. She was diagnosed by a group of alternative medicine practitioners at Santi Asoke, of which she is a member.
For Nature Cure, she was put on diet of only water, interspersed with days of fruit juice, for a total of 21 days. The regimen may sound harsh, but Ying said she was confident in the Indian healer and his medical philosophy. Having completed her entire fasting period, she showed up one evening to talk to participants at the recent Nature Cure workshop. She seemed to have an inexplicable glow in her eyes, her cool, serene smile and her tanned complexion.
“Emotional readiness is very important”. Said Ying to he group, “especially during the critical period when your moods swing up and down. There were three days when I suddenly felt a surge of fear for unknown reasons. In those moments, I was completely weak, physically and mentally. But I've become much stronger since.”
Ying cited a strange, exciting phenomenon that happened to her body. She said that since her very first period, she had always suffered some degree of excruciating pain, to the point of having to be hospitalized . but one day when she was fasting. She excreted a huge glob of unidentifiable membranes. Shortly after wards, her period came, but his time it was pain free.
It is likely that whatever was purged from her body will remain a mystery. Was it the caner cells? Or something else? The recuperating patient, however, said she felt happy and hopeful. She listed her dreams for the future, one of which is to go to India and study the art of Nature Cure healing with Dr. Jacob.
Kamoltip Sirimaskasem
Kamoltip's childhood was filled with frequent visit to doctors and hospitals following bouts of asthama. The disease mysteriously went away as she became a teenager. However, 10 years ago, Kamoltip was diagnosed with endometriosis and had to undergo an operation to remove a cyst. Her doctor also prescribed her hormone treatments for the rest of hormone treatments for the rest of her life; two years later she found herself ailing with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which was followed by osteoporosis and an ulcer.
The young businesswoman said attending the Nature Cure workshop last year has freed her from her dose of drugs, and from their expense. The transition was not that easy, however, as Kamoltip said she used to love meat and hate fruit – exactly the opposite of what Dr.Jacob's regimen promotes.
Sine the initial fasting experience, kamoltip has abstained completely from any kind of meat as well as ice cream and snacks, but she confided that pastry and friend foods still hover in her life, although she succumbs to them only once in a long while. Even with maintaining here less-than right diet, Kamoltip is impressed with the results. She no longer suffers from migraine, lethargy and numbness in her fingers. Her stress level has also cooled quite dramatically with her new lifestyle.
Chantima Thanaswangkul
A car accident in her younger days caused Chantima all sorts of chronic illness – and a reliance on antibiotics. She said that modern medicine had not helped, however, even worse, it has brought her some undesirable side effects.
Now a senior staff member at the Office of the Attorney General, she said her physical and mental health has improved greatly since she participated in a Nature Cure work shop last year. She followed a rigorous fasting regimen, and Chantima said she has discovered a new way of life, one that she can claim fully as her own.
Chantima has stopped using all drugs, including herbal remedies. She has not difficulty eating only one vegetarian meal a day and consuming fruits and juices for the other two meals. Her body has become more balanced, she added.
She said the art of self – healing, based on the Natural Cure philosophy, has served as a path of self development as well and has greatly simplified her daily life. She has learned to distinguish between what is tasty and what is essential, and that life does offer plenty of choices.
